Everyone has a right to affordable access to technology in Australia and the knowledge and confidence needed to use it. So, over the next few months, I am now going to take my digital skills on the road with me as I travel up the East Coast of Australia, in our new Crafter KamperVan.
Along the way, I'll be helping many Gray Nomads by hosting a variety of digital workshops at Caravan Parks. I'll demonstrate to them how they can connect with loved ones and stay safe online, while on their travels.
My job as a Digital Mentor is to educate and empower adults, aged 50 and over, to develop their digital skills and thrive in a digital world. I will do this by introducing them to the "Be Connected" initiative where they can learn new digital skills with free online courses and resources on everything from how to use your smartphone or tablet to cyber safety tips.
Starlink Technology
I'll also be experimenting with the most recent Starlink high-speed, low-latency broadband internet technology by concentrating on some of the more remote regions with little access to the internet and digital assistance so that I can assist seniors in these areas.
NFP Support Groups
Along the way, I also plan to give presentations at several Rotary clubs, outlining the "Be Connected" initiative and how it may benefit their local seniors while demonstrating how to submit grant applications to help their local communities.
FREE Family Support
Do you have relatives on the East Coast who might require some free support? I'd be happy to try and meet up with them along the way and offer some digital support. While I was in Brisbane last week, I got in touch with a few of my Merimbula friends whose parents happened to reside up here and introduced them to the "Be Connected" website as well as locations where they might obtain continuing local digital support.
